Comptroller Mohammed Sani Yusuf records commendable achievements as a first-time Customs Area Controller (CAC) at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) cargo wing, NAHCO Command, Lagos

The Murtala Mohammed Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Lagos, said its first quarter revenue profile in 2023 exceeded that of the corresponding period in the year 2022. According to the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Mohammed Sani Yusuf,, the command recorded a revenue difference of 20 per cent in 2023 first quarter when compared with the total revenue of N17.5 billion the command generated between January and March 2022.
At a media briefing on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the CAC disclosed that the command under his watch since this year recorded a total revenue of N21.362,752,676.44 between January and March 2023 to surpass that of January to March 2022 with the margin of N3,849,294,807.922.
Comptroller Yusuf stated that “It is worthy to note that the revenue activities of the command comprise importation and exportation of legitimate goods, goods under the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS)”.
The Murtala Muhammed Airport Command’s boss also disclosed that export cargoes worth over N100 million were exported through the command within the period under review. According to him, “These exported goods include non-commercial and commercial goods with a total weight of 653 tonnes and Free on Board (FOB) Value of N4.812,780,701.69. The command is working hard to promote export businesses to boost Forex earnings for the country”.
Noting that the command enjoys a rebuts stakeholders’ engagements and support which help in the achievements it recorded, Yusuf revealed that the command’s anti-smuggling drive equally yielded the desired result as there were numerous seizures made during the first three months of the year 2023. These include 22 packages of tramadol tablets of 225 mg and 12 packages of tramadol tablets of 120 mg. The illicit drugs have been handed over to the Commander of Narcotics of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Airport Command.
“This will further strengthen our collaboration in safeguarding our youths from the use of harmful substances which could endanger their lives and the environment. We shall intensify more efforts in making our communities a safe place for all of us to live in,” CAC Yusuf told the media.
He said the seizures were made as a result of credible intelligence-driven operations within the airport environment. The Duty Paid Value (DPV) attached to the seizures is N1.79 billion.
Comptroller Yusuf whom his admirers often refer to as a complete gentleman was promoted to the rank of Comptroller of Custom early in the year 2023 and drafted to head the Lagos Airport Command in February 2023. Since then, he has been working hard to improve on what he met on ground.
