The death of Vwaere Diaso a medical doctor at the Odan, Lagos Island General Hospital, Lagos came to many with a rude shock because of the circumstances surrounding her death. Diaso had died on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 after an elevator she was in at the General Hospital crashed from the 10th floor.  The news of her death is a rude reminder of the poor maintenance culture that has been our lot as nation. The narrative of how poor maintenance culture led to the death of the young doctor is a sorry commentary on the decay of the scarce infrastructure in the country especially Lagos that prides itself as the centre of excellence. She was said to have been on her way to the ground floor to pick up a food delivery from a dispatch rider when the incident occurred.  The details of how maintenance culture flight in the nation caused the death of a promising young medical doctor are contained in this edition.
