Who is Abimbola Adenike Tinubu? This question hogged the headlines of national dailies and online publications since the certificate scandal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu broke out. In 1999 the name Abimbola Adenike Tinubu cropped up in the National Youths Service Corp, NYSC certificate President Tinubu then governor of Lagos State submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The immunity he enjoyed then as governor denied the probing of who really Abimbola Adenike Tinubu was and the controversy smeared for some time. In the period under review, President Tinubu then claimed that he attended University of Chicago which prompted a legal luminary, Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory to challenge the veracity of the claim that Tinubu was a student of University of Chicago. That case ended up at the Supreme Court where Fawehinmi was told that he could not press forgery charges against Tinubu because of the immunity he enjoyed as governor then.
Twenty four years after the same Tinubu came with another theory in his academic odyssey where he claimed that he attended Chicago State University, CSU not University of Chicago he previously claimed. Volumes of documents unearthed by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2023 presidential election, in the bid to verify the authenticity of the certificate President Tinubu showed that there is another lie in the making by the current President of the country. CSU has shown that the Diploma Certificate that Tinubu submitted to INEC in 2022 was not issued by it and has not authorized any third party to issue same. CSU further confirmed that one Bola A. Tinubu was a student and the qualifying certificate into the university bears the name of a woman. The social Security number embossed on the Southgate College qualifying certificate into the university indicated that the name is female and had Physics, Biology and chemistry and later graduated as a medical doctor.
