The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board continues to delay the appointment of a Super Eagles coach without cogent reasons for its action

Nigerians have waited endlessly for the appointment of a new coach of the national team, the Super Eagles. Amid speculations over the appointment of a new head coach for the Super Eagles, the Director of Communications of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire has said that the football house was yet to take a final decision on the matter.

According to Vanguard newspaper, Olajire confirmed that although the technical committee submitted its recommendations, the NFF board was yet to meet. “Nothing has been done in respect of a new Super Eagles coach. The board is yet to meet. We are all waiting,” he said.

When asked if the NFF was of the general apprehension as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Cheetahs of Benin were drawing nearer, Olajire said, the NFF was not unmindful of Super Super Eagles commitment, but that the right thing must be done. On the various names being bandied as coaches with the brightest chances of getting the job, Olajire said, “anybody is free to speculate. It is not a crime.”

Nigerians are worried that the NFF is foot-dragging over the appointment of a new head coach for the Super Eagles, no clear cut plan for the Women’s national team, the Super Falcons who are Paris Olympics bound.

Efforts to see the General Secretary of the NFF proved abortive as he was said to be ‘too busy’.
