Saturday, June 1, 2024 will last for generations in the history of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as well as in the family history of the Malantas. It was the day the Federal Government of Nigeria rolled out the drums to honour a rare customs officer that served the country meritoriously, ACG Yusuf Malanta, now retired.

The Federal Government delegation that graced the retirement dinner in honour of Malanta included the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uba Ahmadu Maigari and Minister of State (MoS) for Agriculture, Senator Sahabi Aliyu.

Captains of industry, diplomats, business moguls and the cream de la cream of the Nigeria Customs Service both serving and retired, gathered in their numbers to celebrate Malanta who carved out a historical sobriquet for himself as the first Customs Area Controller (CAC) to generate one trillion naira revenue in one year, from one Command, into the Federation Account.

Retired ACG Malanta was blushing throughout the dinner which took place at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel. This is because he could not believe he could pull the kind of dignitaries that graced the occasion. Again, Malanta could not believe that the Federal Government had taken notice of his rare contributions to the repositioning of the NCS.

We at Tentacle are proud to be identified with such a multi-talented, unusual Customs Chief. That is why we have dedicated a chunk of the pages of the medium to celebrate a rare leader who commands respect across geopolitical zones. Enjoy the reading
