The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has said that the interim coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen, is still the federation’s technical director, thus dispelling the rumour that, reports on that he has quit the job.

The NFF drafted Eguavoen to guide the Super Eagles through their first two Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the absence of a substantive manager for the team.
But there were reports that Eguavoen had left the job after completing his assignment – taking the team through their first two Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Clarifying the situation, NFF’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, said nothing of such has happened.
Olajire: “Eguavoen will remain with the Super Eagles until the federation takes another decision.”
Also debunking reports that he has quit the job, Eguavoen said his earlier comments were misconstrued, stressing: “It is quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct, and the situation we are in now we don’t need any negative story.”
Eguavoen said that he only told some people that he would meet with the NFF after the two games to decide what would happen with the next games.
He said: “When I saw the story I was worried, I was concerned because whatever people are reading outside there is not correct.
“I’m still very much in charge, I’m the technical director of NFF saddled with the responsibility of handling the Super Eagles at this moment, and that is where we are for now.”
