The nation’s maritime media warmly celebrate one of their cracking and hard-working reporters Dapo Olawuni, as he clinches the prestigious “Best Maritime Reporter” of the year 2022
The year 2023 dawned with broad smiles on the faces of journalists who report the nation’s maritime and shipping business. The maritime media, as these journalists are commonly referred to collectively, transiting from the boisterous 2022 into the new year, 2023, heaved a sigh of relief after the twilight of the old year was marred by series of hardship occasioned by fuel scarcity and increased prices of food items.
This relief came when a notable member of the maritime media in Lagos, Dapo Olawuni, was honoured with a meritorious award of the “Best Maritime Reporter” of the year 2022. The award event took place at Oriental Hotel, Lagos on January 9, 2023. The Maritime Media Merit Award at which Olawuni was conferred with the prestigious award is an annual event which is packaged by the Shipping World Magazine, an industry – based news magazine.
At the 2023 award, the Niger Delta Private Security personality, Government Ekpomupolo popular as Tompolo was honoured with the award of the “Maritime Business Man of the year” 2022. But Olawuni who was chosen for the award due to his audacious, investigative and consistent reportage of the maritime sector business, besides the award, also received the Dr. Bashir Jamoh prize for the Best Maritime Reporter of the year, a fabulous amount of one million naira which cheque was presented to him on the day of the award by Elder Asu Beks, publisher of Shipping World magazine.
