A peep into the identities of Nollywood movie stars who died untimely in the past one decade
Murphy Afolabi: Afolabi was a popular Nollywood actor of the Yoruba version. He died on May 14, 2023 at the age of 50.
Saint Obi: Obi was a veteran film star who started acting during the late 1990s. Obi died on the 7th of May 2023 after a protracted illness. Chief Ojo Arowosafe: Chief Arowosafe was also known as Fadeyi Oloro his stage name. He died on March 7, 2023 at the age 66. Arowosafe was also a traditional Yoruba version movie star.
Kunle Adetokunbo: Known on stage as Dejo Tunfulu, Adetokunbo was a Yoruba version movie star who passed on in April 2022 at age 49.
Gbenga Richards: Richards who died on May 12, 2022, started acting in 1990s and 2000s before he met his untimely death.
Sam Loco Efe: Sam Loco, as he was fondly addressed by his numerous fans, was a popular Nollywood comic actor who died in August 2011 in his hotel room in Owerri, Imo State when he went to shoot a video alongside other colleagues. His death was linked to asthmatic attack. Sam Loco died in his 60s.
Ernest Asuzu: Asuzu was hit by stroke in 2015 and he suffered the ailment till January 2021 when he passed on at the age of 37. Asuzu began his acting career in the 1990s and remained active in Nollywood until he fell sick.
Kabiru Fubara: Fubara was among the Nollywood movie actors who later developed kidney problem, and died of its complications in December 2021.
Sodiq Daba: Sodiq, as he was popularly known, was a veteran broadcaster and Nollywood thespian who died in March 2021 at the Ayinke General Hospital, Ikeja Lagos. Sadiq was suffering from leukemia and prostate cancer.
Victor Olaotan: Olaotan was popular for the television series show known as Tinsel. He was also a Nollywood figure who died August 2021 at the age of 69 having suffered a car accident that left him incapacitated since 2016.
Tolani Quadri Oyebanji: Oyebanji died on March 1, 2024 at the age of 44. He was a Nollywood film actor.
John Okafor: Mr Ibu, the stage name of one of the most popular Nollywood movie stars, John Okafor, died on March 2, 2024 at the age of 62. His death hit his numerous fans below the belt. The comic actor suffered a protracted illness which culminated in the amputation of one of his legs in 2023. The Enugu State-born multi-talented Mr Ibu trilled his fans with many comic videos which endeared him to their hearts, and caused them to mourn endlessly when he passed on.
Deji Aderemi: Aderemi was popularly addressed as Baba Olofa Ina in the local movies industry. The Yoruba version actor hailed from Ede in Osun State and died in January 2024 from cancer complications. Aderemi died at a fairly ripe age of 73.
Cynthia Okereke: Okereke died in July 2023 one year after she was kidnapped while filming in Enugu, the Enugu State capital. Okereke died after a brief illness. She was a Nollywood movies actor.
Peace Anyiam-Osigwe: Anyiam-Osigwe was a Nollywood filmmaker and part of the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA). She died on January 9, 2024 from an ailment identified as heart attack.
Favour Daniels: This Nollywood star was also known as Omoge Amama in the movie world. The comic actress died in February 2023 at an unripe age.
Rachel Oniga: Oniga was aged 64 when she passed on in 2021. She was diagnosed with heart-related ailment at the time of her demise. She was a known Nollywood actress.
Ada Ameh: The comic Ameh was part of the television series show known as The Johnsons. The popular Nollywood actress died in July 2022 at the age of 48. She was said to have been devastated by a mental health issue which suspiciously attacked her after the death of her daughter in 2020. S
Sidikat Odukanwi: This veteran Nollywood actress, Odukanwi, was popular as Iyabo Oko. She died on June 29, 2023 after an illness.
Moji Olaiya: Olaiya died at an unripe age of 42. She was a known Nollywood actress, but she died in Canada in 2017, two months after she had a child birth.
Ify Onwuemene: Onwuemene was popular with the television series show known as Everyday People. She died in May 2021 from endometrial cancer.
Aishat Abimbola: This Nollywood actress died in 2018 at far away Canada after she suffered breast cancer that refused to heal. Abimbola was only 42 years old when she passed on. Her stage name was Omoge Campus.
Pope Odonwodo, Jr: Junior Pope, as Odonwodo was popularly known, drowned on April 10, 2024 on his way from shooting a film. His death was a big blow to his fans.
