President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) recently visited Rivers State chapter during which she commissioned a-12 room office complex of the association and empowered POWA women

The National President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Dr (Mrs.) Elizabeth Egbetokun has said that the newly built POWA Office Complex in Port Harcourt will solidify support for the husbands of police women, who are officers on uniform. Mrs. Egbetokun stated this Friday, October 4, 2024 while commissioning the 12-room office complex of POWA in Port Harcourt.
According to her, no level of encouragement will be too much to give to police officers who put their lives on line to protect the society. “The POWA Secretariat will therefore serve as a new chapter in the annals of POWA in Rivers State.
The POWA Secretariat complex, according to her is a safe haven for mothers and children of the police family.
She said as the POWA National President, she understands the problems confronting the Police, assuring that POWA is committed to empowering the families of police officers.
“We are Community ambassadors and as we commission this edifice today let us come together to harness its potentials, “Dr Egbetokun admonished. She thanked the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminailayi Fubara for his support to POWA and the Commissioner of Police for making the project possible. In her address, the Rivers State Chairperson of POWA, Mrs Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu thanked the National President of POWA and wife of the 22nd Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mrs. Egbetokun for gracing the occasion. She described POWA as a non-profit, non-religious, non-tribal and non-governmental Organisation, that is purely dedicated to provide development and empowerment to its members. Mrs. Disu who expressed happiness that despite the fact that the project was flagged off barely five months ago amidst financial challenges, has been completed for commissioning.
She assured that the facility will enhance the financial stability of POWA, while also serving as symbol of unity among members. She thanked Gov Fubara, other officers and philanthropists for their support.
In her goodwill message, wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Roseline Uranta said the edifice shows the exemplary leadership of the IGP. She promised that the Ministry of Women Affairs will continue to provide enabling environment for women to strive. In his remark the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu had thanked the IGP’s wife and National President of POWA for honouring their invitation. He also thanked the Governor for his immense support to the Command. The CP said the complex will not only boost the operational capabilities of the Command, but will also serve as a beacon of hope to the communities, as they strive to keep the society.
