Is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on the verge of achieving his life-long ambition? The former Vice President has longed to lead Nigeria as its President since his vibrant youthful days in the 1990s. And not a few think that he has something enriching to offer the citizens.
The reason for the conclusion that Atiku can make the best president out of the pack of presidents who have mismanaged the country since the advent of this dispensation, if given the opportunity, lies in the fact that he has been a very successful businessman and an astute politician. Atiku exudes the traits of a pragmatic and charismatic leader who can go extra mile to give the country commendable leadership.
The closest he came to ruling the country was in 2019 when he battled former President Mohammadu Buhari to a standstill. Obviously, most voters had wanted an Atiku presidency that year in place of Buhari whose government was faltering on all sides.
Unfortunately, he was rigged out of favour by the Mahmud Yakubu-led INEC. Since then, it’s been a matter of fruitless journey to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa for the former second citizen.
Interestingly, as the 2027 presidential election draws closer, Atiku appears to be the most favoured to occupy the Villa in 2027. This is because Tinubu who is said to have lost the 2023 presidential poll to Peter Obi, but was rigged into office, again by the notorious Yakubu, has failed to rule on the side of the people following his harsh economic policies. His backbone, the Northern region, has therefore rejected him for another term.
Moreover, the credible Obi candidacy seems not to be sinking well with the Northern regions due to his tribal origin. Thus, Atiku now remains highly acceptable to the angry North, what with his leadership of a Coalition Group that is made up of highly influential politicians, the coast is obviously getting clearer for Atiku by the day to ascend the Aso Rock throne in the next two years.
