In what becomes a thriving trade across the country, a bizarre revelation emanates from Enugu State where two sisters kidnap their brother for a ransom of N10 million

The Enugu State Police Command has paraded several suspects arrested for violent crimes including two sisters who abducted their own brother and collected N10 million ransom, which the law enforcement agents have fully recovered.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police (CP) Mamman Bitrus Giwa disclosed this during a media briefing at the Command’s Headquarters, while reporting a six-month review of police operations in the state.
“Among the most notable cases was the arrest of two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, who kidnapped their kinsman and collected N10 million ransom which has been recovered and the suspects arraigned in court and remanded in custody,” Giwa stated.
The CP revealed that between March and August 2025, the Command arrested 5,176 suspects for various crimes including 87 for kidnapping and 98 for armed robbery. He also confirmed that 113 kidnapped victims were rescued during the period.
On recoveries, Giwa disclosed that police operatives seized the following from suspects – 105 firearms of various calibers, 752 ammunition, 119 stolen vehicles and motorcycles, N10 million ransom money from a kidnapping case, 16 expended cartridges from cult-related case and several stolen household appliances, electronics and cash.
Highlighting other cases, Giwa mentioned the arrest of Obieze Levi, alias “E Dey Pray, E Dey Show” alongside two accomplices in connection with kidnapping and ritual killings. Another breakthrough, he said, was the dismantling of a trans-border gang responsible for trafficking and violent crimes across the South-East.
He also confirmed the arrest of a notorious cultist in Nsukka with arms in his possession, stressing, “Cult-related violence remains a major security concern, but we are making progress through intelligence-led policy.”
In addition, police operatives recently intercepted armed robbers along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway, recovering sophisticated weapons, stolen vehicles and large sums of money traced to kidnapping operations. Several suspects have been charged to court, while others remain under investigation.

The CP commended Governor, Peter Ndubusi Mbah, sister security agencies and law abiding residents for their cooperation. He urged the citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, adding, “In unity, we can sustain peace and security in Enugu State.”
In a related development, Rivers State Police Command has arrested one Emmanuel George, a native of Akwa Ibom State but resident at Close 6, Rumu-Evolu Road, off Ada-George Road, Port Harcourt for raping a 12-year-old girl inside a stationary Tricycle (Keke).
The incident, according to the report, occurred when the victim who came to spend holiday with her aunt, was attacked while buying fried potatoes along the street not too far from the house around Mini-Orlu, off Ada-George Road.
The suspect dragged her into a tricycle, tied her hands and assaulted her before fleeing. Police responded swiftly, apprehending George within hours and recovering evidence including a rope, fufu and the tricycle. The victim is receiving medical attention and George confessed to the crime.
The Rivers State Police Commissioner (CP) Olugbenga Adepoju has emphasized the Command’s commitment to justice and urged parents to monitor their children closely, reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.
Similarly, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 37-year-old man, Joseph Okon Eren, following the death of his neighbour Ekopimo Effiong Moses, after a violent clash in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
The Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Timfon John in a statement on Sunday, September 14, 2025, said the incident occurred on Thursday evening September 11, after a heated argument between the two men spiraled into a deadly machete duel.
According to the report, Moses 34, who was the Youth President of the Community sustained deep machete cuts during the altercation and was rushed to nearby hospital for emergency treatment. He was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
“The suspect, Joseph Okon Eren, from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan Local Government Area but resides in the village, was taken into custody shortly after the incident. A machete believed to have been used in the attack has also been recovered as evidence,” the statement reads.
The police disclosed that the fight was first reported by the village head, who alerted operatives when the disagreement between the two men turned violent.
Eren is currently being held at the state criminal investigation department, while the body of the late Youth Leader has been deposited at the morgue. DSP John further assured that a discreet investigation is under way to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
