The Lagos State Police Command embarks on full enforcement of tinted glass permits across the state just as its officers and men arrest two suspected armed robbers and recover an operational motorcycle
The Lagos State Police Command has announced that its men and officers will begin to enforce the law regulating tinted glass on vehicles as from Wednesday, October 2, 2025 in line with existing laws and directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, which it said will be carried out professionally to enhance public safety, curb criminal activities and ensure compliance with road safety laws.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Lagos State Command, Abimbola Adebisi, a Superintendent of Police (SP) on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the Command maintained that in view of the above, vehicle owners who are yet to register are strongly advised to obtain the approved Tinted Glass Permit at www.possap.gov.ng.
“Those who are not desirous of obtaining the Tinted Glass Permit are advised to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as legally provided by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004. Vehicles with tinted glasses without the permit will be impounded, and offenders will be prosecuted.
“While the Command continues to enforce general traffic and safety regulations, motorists are advised to always carry their essential documents and to cooperate with officers during lawful stop-and-search operations. The Commissioner of Police warned field operatives and their supervising officers to ensure that such exercises are conducted with the highest level of professionalism, free from harassment or extortion of motorists,” the statement reads.
Jimoh emphasized that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action, while their supervisory officer will also be held vicariously liable, while urging cooperation with police officers during this exercise, emphasizing that it is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to guarantee everyone’s security.
The Commissioner of Police, CP assures residents of Lagos State of the Command’s commitment to professionalism, fairness and respect for citizens’ rights during the enforcement exercise.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has halted the enforcement of the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) controversial tinted glass permit requirement for vehicle owners.
In an interim order issued on Friday, September 26, 2025, the court directed the police to maintain the status quo and respect ongoing judicial processes until further hearings in the matter.
The ruling came as proceedings opened in Suit No FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, filed by human rights lawyer John Aikpokpo-Martins against the IGP and the NPF. The suit challenges the legality of the renewed enforcement drive on tinted glass permits.
Confirming the order, Kunle Edun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who led the petitioner’s legal team, described the decision as “a significant step towards safeguarding the rule of law pending the determination of the substantive issues before the court.”
The development comes amid criticisms from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and other stakeholders, who have argued that the police clampdown on tinted glass permits is unlawful and prone to abuse.
In another development, operatives of the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers identified as Segun Adeyemi ‘M’ 32 and Abayomi Ajayi ‘M’ 24, who were caught in the act of dispossessing unsuspecting citizens of their valuables, around Shoprite Ikeja and Maryland axis.
The suspects, who were part of a three-man gang operating on a motorcycle, were trailed and arrested following a swift Police response to a distress call.
A statement made available to journalists by Adebisi indicated that on September 29, 2025, at about 1915hrs, the operatives received a distress call that the vicious gang was attacking people in the area to which they acted promptly, resulting in the arrest of the two of the suspects, while the third escaped.
The operational motorcycle used by the gang was recovered as an exhibit. Preliminary investigation revealed that the three-man gang came from Mushin to carry out their criminal activities in Ikeja before luck ran out on them. Investigation is being intensified to arrest the third suspect now at large. The arrested suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the other members of the gang. All the suspects involved will be prosecuted at the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the CP Jimoh commended the operatives for their swift intervention and appreciated members of the public whose cooperation made the arrests possible. He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid Lagos State of criminal elements and urged citizens to continue to provide timely and credible information to the Police for effective crime prevention and control.
