Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is in a mess! His Public Relations has fallen to zero. He lacks peace, he lacks decorum, he lacks friendship, especially among the masses. But even among the elite, whether political or business elite, Wike lacks friendship and sympathy.
The event of Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Abuja, where he went to block builders, and/or demolish buildings belonging to a former Chief of Naval Staff (CONS), Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, has exposed Wike as a man who has bitten more than he is able to chew.
At the referenced event, arrogant Wike was resisted from gaining entrance to the property in question, by a gallant Lieutenant of the Nigerian Navy, AM Yerima. Lt. Yerima had stood tall and looked straight into Wike’s eyes, and told him point-blank, you are not allowed inside this parcel of land.
Yerima’s audacity infuriated Wike who boiled with indignation. Wike was weak, Wike had no patience, Wike exhibited arrogance as if he owned the world. Wike lost control, and in an attempt to give it back to Yerima, Wike betrayed calm disposition needed by leaders under tense atmosphere. Wike forgot he was in the public. Wike lost control, lost wisdom, lost tact, lost rational reasoning, emotions that aid leaders to navigate rough situations.
What happened next? He began to rain abuses on a military officer in uniform. What a pity, what a desperate public office holder who thinks he must control others to his advantage.
If Wike was wise, he would know that no one can win all his life battles. Wise men know when to stay put and when to walk away when emotions are high. But Wike showed he was not properly groomed. He let Nigerians know he lacked discipline. He showed he was an overlord as he used to be when he was the governor of Rivers State. No wonder when he left government house, he refused to allow his predecessor, Siminalayi Fubara enjoy peace till an illegal emergency rule was imposed on that innocent and peaceful state by President Bola Tinubu.
Back to Abuja, Wike though he was still the executive governor. But Yerima subtly told him, ”You have expired. You have no authority any more, sooner you’re meeting your Waterloo”.
It’s the legendary Bob Nesta Marley who sang, ”He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day”. But for Wike, this wisdom is rubbish; he must show his might even to a dead animal to prove that he is in charge. But he lost it at Abuja with Yerima.
The evils Wike committed are living with him. No wonder, since the Abuja episode, no reasonable or highly placed citizens have shown him any sympathy. He’s been struggling to get himself together, yet peace continues to elude him.
Wike may still meet such resistance in his home state of Rivers whenever Tinubu decides to throw him away. With Tinubu, his cup is already full waiting to spill. The doomsday is charging at Wike, nemesis is knocking at his door. The blood of the innocent Obigbo indigenes he sent soldiers to massacre when he was governor is pushing him up and down.
