The Apapa Customs Command, Lagos, has been commended for exceptional perfomance in the recent times. The commendation came from the Zonal Coordinator for the South west Zone, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Mohammed Babandede.
The ACG Babandede, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, while on a familiarisation visit, stated that he was impressed with the current outings of the Command.
During the visit, ACG Babandede commended officers and men of the Command for their exceptional performance in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and trade facilitation throughout 2025. He noted that the Command had not only met but exceeded its annual revenue target, a feat he described as a testament to their dedication and professionalism.
The Zonal Coordinator also lauded the Command’s seizures of narcotics and other illicit substances, including cocaine and tramadol, stressing that such interceptions were critical to safeguarding national security, public health, and societal well-being. He emphasized that strong enforcement remained essential to creating a secure environment for legitimate trade to flourish.
Highlighting the broader responsibilities of the Service beyond revenue collection, Babandede praised the Command’s effective inter-agency collaboration and urged officers to deepen cooperation with sister agencies. He encouraged the adoption of modern trade facilitation tools that have elevated the Service’s operational standards.
He further underscored the importance of integrity, mentorship, reputation management, and officers’ welfare, noting that senior officers must transfer knowledge and experience to younger colleagues. Babandede disclosed that drug tests would be conducted across Commands and advised officers to remain health-conscious to ensure effective service delivery.
In his remarks, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and motivating. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining excellence in revenue generation, enforcement, trade facilitation, inter-agency cooperation, and ethical conduct, in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023 and the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs.
