Pandemonium ensued in Omoku Community in Rivers State as gunmen and suspected cult gang behead the President of Omoku Youth Federation and murder his personal assistant

Gunmen suspected to be members of a cult gang on Thursday, February 5, 2026 killed one Chigozie Oluwu and abducted, killed and beheaded the President of Omoku Youth Federation, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu at a popular drinking joint along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Tentacle gathered that the gunmen, numbering about seven, came in two vehicles and upon sighting the Youth President, pointed guns at him and ordered him to get into one of the cars, but Oluwu who was said to be Azuazu’s personal aide intervened, was shot dead while Asuazu was abducted was killed, beheaded and dumped at an evil forest in the community.

The incident caused pandemonium as passersby and residents scampered for safety while some business owners hurriedly closed their shops for the day.

Following the development, the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) has recovered the headless and lifeless body of the Youth President at a forest in Omoku in the afternoon of Friday, February 6, 2026.

Spokesperson of OSPAC in ONELGA, Goodness Nkem, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, said Chigozie Oluwu was shot dead at the Youth President’s house while Asuazu’s lifeless body was found in a forest on Friday afternoon by OSPAC hours after his abduction by the gunmen.

Nkem advised residents of Omoku to remain calm while the Police, the Department of State Service (DSS) and other relevant security agencies carry out their investigation with a view to arresting the culprits.

Meanwhile the Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, (CSP) Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the killing of Chigozie Oluwu and the abduction, beheading and recovering of Asuazu’s corpse.

CSP Koko asserted that the killing is cult related and the Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbenga Adepoju has ordered a full scale investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators of the heinous crime, describing it as ‘a dastardly act.’
