A group of reporters under the aegis of the Coalition of Maritime Journalists Associations of Nigeria (COMJAN) elects it new executives with a clear mandate for greater collaboration with maritime stakeholders, especially in the South-East and South-South regions

The umbrella body of maritime journalists, Coalition of Maritime Journalists Associations of Nigeria (COMJAN), has elected a new executive, while ratifying legal instruments setting up the association.
The body, which emerged from the coalition of maritime media associations, on Saturday February 21, elected an initial Nine-Man Executive to run its affairs for the time being.
The group led by Professor Ralph John as the President and the executive members including Chief Macdonald Aguigbo (Vice President), Chief Titus Eze (Secretary), Deacon Golden Enyi Onyema (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Blaise Elumezie (Financial Secretary), Pastor Ifeanyi Nwaoha (Treasurer), Kelechi Nwaucha (Public Relations Officer), Mrs. Florence Pere (Welfare Secretary) and Comrade Jude Nzennaya (Provost).
COMJAN President, maritime media veteran, Professor John, said the setting up of the association was the natural and inclined towards developing maritime journalism and the maritime sector as a whole in the Eastern and Southern zones of the country.
Professor John, who spoke against the backdrop of the National Single Window (NSW) Town Hall Meeting held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, stated that COMJAN caters to the media and communication needs of stakeholders in the maritime industry.
“The new executive has just come up, and it is to harmonize our activities as maritime journalists. For instance, this National Single Window. We are to disseminate this information and do write-ups on it as we educate the people, and inform the stakeholders,” he said.
Expressing the belief that the NSW will simplify operations in the sector, John noted that COMJAN would impact the maritime industry positively, adding, “The association’s aims and objectives are to impact, disseminate and distribute information that emanates from the maritime sector. And this is one of them. So, when it gets the nitty-gritty of this and distributes it, those who were not here today will read and queue into this system.”
Speaking, COMJAN Vice President, Aguigbo, said, “This association is here to stay and to do all that is necessary need to be done for the growth of the industry. We will work for the improvement of the maritime sector, the Nigerian Customs (NCS), the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and the industry generally.
“We urge them to be patient and partner the association in the important task of developing the maritime industry.”
Further, Aguigbo urged his colleagues to adopt the mindset necessary for the association to achieve its set goals, while calling for respect to constituted authorities among stakeholders.
