In what residents have described as a disturbing trend, there has been rising targeted brutal killings, kidnappings and other crimes in Rivers State lately prompting residents to demand decisive action from all security agencies

Recent happenings in Rivers State of are deeply disturbing. Too many innocent lives are being cut short in the most violent and brutal manner. This is no longer just a series of incidents, it is a growing crisis.
The case of Mina Orupabo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Special Bensington’s Ushers, widely known as Special B Ushers has sent shock waves through the Port Harcourt business and social community. The incident, occurring in high-traffic area, has raised serious concerns about the nature of targeted violence in the state.
On March 19, 2026, around 8 pm, Mina a familiar and respected figure in city’s hospitality and event space was travelling along Peter Odili Road, a major thoroughfare in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She was reportedly en route to a routine business inspection at an event centre a standard part of her role as the head of a prominent ushering and event management agency.
While in transit, her vehicle was intercepted by unknown gunmen who opened fire. Reports from the scene indicate a high level of aggression which claims that Mina was struck by up to six bullets.
Remarkably the driver and the third companion in the vehicle managed to escape the heavy gunfire without physical injury. Security experts are of the opinion that the fact that the attackers focused their fire primarily on Mina has led to widespread speculation that she was the specific and sole target. According to reports, she sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack.
She was immediately rushed to hospital where medical personnel fought to save her life. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery, Mina succumbed to the severity of her internal injuries on March 21, 2026.
The Rivers state Police Command and local agencies are treating the case with high priority. The investigation is currently exploring two main theories. Given that the other occupants were unharmed and nothing was reportedly stolen from the vehicle at the time of shooting, investigators are leaning toward a premeditated hit. They are looking into her business dealings and personal associations to identify potential motives.
While less likely given the circumstances, police have not entirely ruled out a botched robbery attempt, though the spray and pray; nature of the gunfire suggests an intent to kill rather than to stop the vehicle for theft.
Mina was the driving force behind Special B-Ushers, a fast-rising ushering agency that had become a recognizable name at high-profile events across Port Harcourt. Known for professionalism, coordination skills and commitment to excellence, she built a brand that stood out in a highly competitive industry.

Her death has prompted a massive outpouring of grief from colleagues and clients, many of whom are calling for Justice for Mina; and increased security patrols along every nook and corner of the state.
Again, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the dread Young Mafia cult traced Justice Eleba, aka Sexy Junior to HH, Hotel Obor Road, Omoku area of Rivers state. Outside the hotel, they accosted and abducted him and later shot him in most cruel and brutal manner.
Reacting to the gruesome murder, David Owhor said that it is unfortunate that many youths are not tired for cult matters upon what Omoku passed through years ago. Imagine, such a young handsome man with great life opportunities ahead of him, his life was just cut short like that. N39m pained by this said David Owhor.
The events leading to his brutal killing started on Monday, March 16, 2026 when Vikings defeated the Young Mafia in supremacy war clash. Felt humiliated and embarrassed, the Young Mafia decided to come back on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 to teach members of the Vikings confraternity a better lesson for their boldness and courage to come on top during their fight. Fortunately for them, they hit their targets with the killing of Sexy Junior.
Meanwhile, the Rivers state Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a case of conspiracy and murder involving one Shedrack Ogadioma Chukwem (Male 42) an indigene of Umuemeshie Community, Chokota in Igbo-Etche, Etche local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Spokesperson for the Command, CSP Grace Iringe Koko in a statement said that following sustained and unrelenting investigative efforts by operatives of the Command attached to Anti-
Cultism Unit, Emuoha Annex, one Robinson Uche (Male, 29), a native of Umuechem in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers state was tracked and arrested at about 7:30 am on March 6, 2026. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to actively participating in the killing of the deceased. The incident occurred on December 17, 2025 when he and four others-identified as Prince (also known as Onyia-Army), one Achor, Gift Okere, also known as Mnaye and another individual whose name he could not provide were allegedly hired by one Chief Elijah Okere to bring the deceased to his palace. The suspect further stated that upon arriving at the location where the deceased was attending a family meeting their attempt to arrest him became unsuccessful. He alleged that in the course of the encounter, the group shot the deceased, resulting in his death.
Efforts have been intensified by the Police to apprehend the other suspects who are currently at large said Grace-Iringe-Koko.
Similarly, a young lady, Moses Peace died the most violent and cruellest of death in the city. She wasn’t sick, she was full of life. She went for church service and was crossing a road she had crossed countless times just in front of her church. She was knocked down by a convoy of vehicles driving recklessly on top speed. The cars on the convoy took turns to run over her. Each smashing promising life out of her and when they were done, her structures were left in total ruins. Her killers sped off without an iota of conscience.
Moses Peace was described by those who knew her as a vibrant and purpose-driven individual. She was the founder of the Moses Peace Foundation, an initiative focused on empowering women and contributing to community development.
Floxy Duke in reaction said, “Moses Peace, a vibrant, promising lady was tragically taken from us by reckless hit and run driver and we cannot stay quiet. A life so full of light was extinguished in an instant, not by fate, but by irresponsibility and disregard for human life. No family should endure such devastation and no society should tolerate such injustice. A life taken must never be ignored; it must be accounted for.”
