Nigeria never ceases to spring surprises. How a nation so blessed with so much abundant human and natural resources was brought down to its knees by successive rudderless governments beats the imagination of any right thinking human.
Arguably one of the most powerful countries in the world considering its vast resources and population but plagued by decades of thieving politicians, its most endowed citizens continue to migrate outside the shores of Africa’s most populous nation, ostensibly to seek the proverbial greener pastures even in less endowed climes. How sad!
Giving the perpetual crises in the country’s health sector, past and present leaders continue to seek reasonable healthcare abroad, with some of the not-so-lucky ones like former President Muhammadu Buhari dying in a London hospital. The situation is so grim that in the last one decade, over 94,000 doctors, nurses and midwives have migrated abroad in search of professional and financial fulfillment that culminates in a worthwhile livelihood. Last year alone, it was reported that almost 4,000 doctors migrated to Europe, America and Asia to practice their profession.
Sadly, as the nation hemorrhages on all fronts, its leaders bent on permanently protecting their political and economic interests, are enmeshed in the 2027 politics, which have thrown up the good, bad and ugly. And as political alignments and realignments take centre stage, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who was labeled ‘clueless’ in the greater part of his administration, has been drafted into the race. Quite appallingly, as any gullible and selfish politician would do, he seems to have swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker!
In a country where most citizens who lack the wherewithal to japa, have been turned into okada riders across the country, a startling revelation surfaces in the nation’s oil sector-the billions and trillions of naira alleged fraud in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
