To sustain safety of lives and property in Anambra State, the state Police Command organizes an intensive combat and armed drills training for constables

The commitment to strengthening internal security in Anambra State has taken a significant step forward as the Anambra State Police Command commenced a comprehensive Combat and Armed Drills Training programme for Police Constables across the state.
The training marks another strategic effort by the Command to reinforce operational efficiency and sustain safety in communities facing increasingly complex security challenges.
Designed as a capacity-building initiative, the programme aims to prepare officers mentally and physically for the realities of modern policing.
Day One of the exercise began with structured classroom sessions where the trainees received foundational lectures tailored toward operational excellence. The training environment reflected discipline and focus as constables assembled early, demonstrating readiness to embrace the demanding exercise ahead.
Instructors introduced participants to key concepts of combat awareness, tactical movement and coordinated law enforcement response mechanisms.
The lectures also addressed professional ethics, stressing the importance of responsible conduct while engaging members of the public during operations.
Participants were also guided through contemporary policing principles aligned with global best practices in security management. The sessions further highlighted the importance of intelligence-led policing as a tool for crime prevention and effective incident response. A defining moment of the opening day was the interactive engagement with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Emmanuel Simon Bretet, who addressed the trainees. The AIG formally introduced the officers to the training school management and instructors tasked with overseeing the programme.
In his address, he emphasized that training remains the backbone of professional policing and operational success. He urged the constables to maintain discipline, resilience, and dedication throughout the training period. According to him, the ability of officers to respond effectively during critical situations depends largely on the quality of preparation received during exercises such as this.
He reminded the trainees that professionalism and respect for human rights must remain central to policing duties. Command authorities noted that the combat drills are structured to improve officers’ readiness for field deployment. The programme is expected to enhance tactical coordination, weapons handling proficiency, and situational awareness among participants.
Officials explained that strengthening officers’ operational competence directly contributes to safer communities. The initiative aligns with ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force aimed at building a modern and responsive policing institution.
Security experts have consistently emphasized the need for continuous retraining to match evolving criminal tactics. The training also promotes teamwork, leadership skills, and confidence necessary for effective policing operations. Participants are expected to undergo practical combat simulations and field exercises in subsequent phases of the programme.
