The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service under the distinguished leadership of the Customs Area Controller Dr. Ben Oramalugo FCIA FNIM has attained remarkable achievements and milestones during the period spanning October to November 2023.
Since assumption of office at Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Customs Area Command on 18th September 2023 Dr. Oramalugo FCIA FNIM has continued to make use of various methods of enforcement, especially intelligencegathering and sharing to suppress the menace of smuggling and ensuring national safety and security. His commitment to duty, relentless dedication, and strategic initiatives exhibited by the Officers and Men of the Command have significantly contributed to the success of the erudite CAC.
The Oyo/Osun Command has continued to use all available resources at its disposal to generate revenue for the Federal Government. The Command under the distinguished leadership of Dr. Oramalugo, for the period of October and November 2023 recorded revenue collection of ₦6,881,524,704.14 and ₦5,030,694,597.05 respectively. But between January and November 2023, the Command collected cumulative sum of ₦64, 118,678,267.69.
In the area of anti-smuggling, the Command has intensified efforts to combat smuggling activities within the Commands Area of its responsibility. This has resulted in the seizure of various contraband goods.
In the months of October and November 2023 within which Oramalugo has been in charge, a total of 1,023 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, 11,150 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 63 sacks and 20 wraps of Cannabis Sativa and 24 bales of used clothes have been intercepted by the Command.
Cumulatively, a total of 9,470 50kg Bags of foreign parboiled rice, 2,361 pieces of used tyres, 76 Bales of Used Clothing, 92,325 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 31 Vehicles (Tokunbo Vehicles and Vehicles used as means of conveyance), 70 cartons of Foreign Toilet Soap. This seizures all have a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦110,440,040.00.It is worthy to note that these anti-smuggling operations have not only protected the economy but also safeguarded the well-being of our citizens by preventing the entry of harmful and illegal goods into our great country Nigeria.
In line with the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to facilitate legitimate trade, the Oyo/Osun Area Command has implemented various measures to enhance ease of doing business and enforce the Fiscal Policy of the Federal Government. The Command has continued to foster a conducive environment for legitimate trade by reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks in its customs operations, streamlining customs processes and conduct stakeholder engagements to promote voluntary compliance with customs regulations.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SC K Wey said, “Dr. Oramalugo recognizes the importance of community relations and to this end has endeavored to actively engage and educate host communities on the core responsibilities of the Nigeria Customs Service. These initiatives include courtesy visits to Sister Security Agencies, Traditional Rulers, Border Town communities and infrastructural development projects all aimed at fostering cordial relationships and contributing to the well-being of the Commands host communities”.
