In Search Of Food

Food scarcity is pounding poor Nigerians. The worst calamity that can afflict any nation is such nation’s inability to ensure food security for all its citizens.

In Nigeria today, food items have become the most wanted commodity among the poorest in a country where political leaders swim in opulence.

The food scarcity has got to an unbearable level at which helpless citizens now resort to ending their own lives in suicide. Those citizens who had killed themselves out of frustration or attempted snuffing their own lives, had only one reason for such disdainful act which is simply, “hunger and hardship”.

What can the Bola Ahmed Tinubu government do to assuage the anger in the land occasioned by the government’s anti-people policies? The government appears to be chasing only shadows while the hardship keeps getting out of hand. At the last count, some angry youths are already mobilizing to embark on nationwide protest that is aimed at compelling Tinubu to relax some of his government’s anti-people policies. But again, typical of the Nigerian political leadership, they are set to unleash the military on the protesting youths despite the government’s inability to provide good leadership to the citizens. Already, the Nigerian Army has issued serious warning against citizens who wish to join the protest that it would unleash mayhem on them should they attempt to engage in any form of protest between August 1 and 10, 2024.  What next for poor Nigerians?
