The late famous Russian writer, Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, later to be known as Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) once said, “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time”. The legendary English playwright, poet and actor, William Shakespeare, wrote: Better three hours too soon than a minute too late.”
But perhaps, the most powerful and most popular quote on time can be found in the Bible book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, which teaches that there is a time for everything under the heavens…a time to be born and time to die, a time to work and a time to rest… a time to arrive and a time to leave…
Be that as it may, a combination of patience and time, getting to one’s destination earlier than expected or reaching a little late, work and rest, all dovetail towards one purpose, do your best and leave the stage when, as they say, the ovation is loudest.
There is time for everything indeed, and that is why the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration thinks they can do anything within the confines of Aso Rock and get away with it. But little did they know that there is no secret even in darkness.
At a time when Nigerians are trying to come to terms with revelations about a fake agency named the “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC)”, a bigger story of another monumental case of sleaze breaks in the Budget Office for which billions of Naira has been being appropriated since 2019 under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari government. Wonderful!

Recent events in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) point to the fact that one gallant and beautiful era (with an uncommon grace for tenure extensions) will be coming to an end in the next six or seven months, giving that several senior officers will be exiting the service to give way for a new crop of officers to take over the management of the Service, as captured in our second lead story for this edition titled: “Who Becomes Next Comptroller CG?”
What a shame! A nation of ironies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) basks in the euphoria of court-ordered forfeitures of stolen properties and monies running into trillions of Naira from powerful Nigerians who almost ran the country aground by their sheer thievery and looting spree, yet hunger and economic hardship bite harder in the corridors of the ordinary citizens, so to say!
Yet again, there is a bizarre revelation about right and might as state governors defy a July 11, 2024 court ruling on the autonomy of the 774 local government areas of the country. Contrary to the Supreme Court’s judgment, the governors continue to hold the councils by the jugular, withholding N3.004 trillion between January and June, 2026 alone.
That is to say the governors are above the law since they have chosen to ignore a ruling of the highest court in the land, yet the Federal Government looks away as the presidency and its handlers engage in the frenzy of 2027 politics.
Well, two wrongs can never make a right, and rather than flee, this medium has chosen to fight for a better country where lawlessness will become a thing of the past, votes will count during elections and the rule of law is guaranteed, and above all, Nigerians will have jobs and be able to put food on their tables.
To wrap it up, we serve you an array of stories in the business and economy, environment, crime and sports, and lest we forget, we rejoice and celebrate with Enugu Air for the Grace of God that averted a crash that saved over 68 passengers at the Benin Airport.
