The High Chief PMC Okeke-sponsored singing competition for Catholic secondary schools students held recently at the Port Harcourt

The November 8, 2024 singing competition at the Corpus St Sanguis Christi Cathedral will remain a day to be remembered by the worshipers for a long time. The event commenced with the Eucharistic celebration of the mass by the chief host His Lordship, Most Reverend Dr. C. A Etokudo, the Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese who was represented by the auxiliary Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese, His Lordship Most Reverend Dr. Patrick Eluke.
The atmosphere was charged with excitement as students from 20 Catholic secondary schools in the Port Harcourt Diocese gathered to participate in the much-anticipated choral competition facilited by High Chief PMC Okeke chairman, CEO AVA Group International and the Catholic School boards, the first of its kind in the Diocese.
High Chief Okeke KSJI-sponsored choral competition came with the theme, “Fostering Inter-Generational Unity Through Music”, a celebration of innovation and students’ excellence in traditional liturgical hymns in the diocese.
The competition aimed at fostering the spirit of unity among members of the Diocese, groom younger generation of Catholics and maintain the traditional liturgical hymns back to the Catholic church.
The event was to encourage Catholic schools, celebrate students in the Catholic schools, each of the schools were to sing three songs including an anthem which served as the Catholic school anthem.
The participants sang to the admiration of the audience. The atmosphere was electrified as the first three school finalists which were declared the winners of the competition went home with the sum of N500.000.00 and the maiden cup.
The maiden edition highlighted Chief Okeke’s commitment to empowering the Catholic schools and providing platforms for the next generation of Catholic music professionals.
At the event, a Nollywood actress Miss Urenwa Juliet Adolphus said she could not explain her excitement. Speaking with Tentacle the actress who is popular as Urenwa said,
“My name is Urenwa Juliet Adolphus, a Nollywood actress, a chorister and the brand ambassador of AVA group International and a chorister of one of the best choirs in the Port Harcourt Diocese.
“I can’t explain how I feel in this event, it should be taking plsce every three months because the fun is out of this world, the kids shocked me with their renditions with what they were singing, I didn’t see that coming, so, it was a fun filled day for me.
