Professor Joash Amupitan may be thinking that over 200 million Nigerians are fools. That is why he has begun to show signs of partisanship.
He must not think that what happened during the 2023 presidential election would repeat itself when the slogan, “Snatch it, grab it and run away with it” was in vogue. Nigerians have learnt enough lessons to tolerate another presidential election heist.
It’s clear that the hardship in the land has made majority of citizens to be feeling bad about the Bola Tinubu government. According to Buba Galadima, even a corpse can defeat Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Even though the Galadima assertion is as contestable as he is entitled to his opinion, the fact remains that a combination of hardship, insecurity, kidnappings and ransom payments and wanton killings of innocent citizens, especially in the Northern parts of the country, have made the real voters lose interest in Tinubu government.
But instead of finding ways to pacify the angry citizens, Tinubu’s aides and ministers continue to boast that “he must win a second time”. The boasting irritates citizens because they know that Wike and Bayo Onanuga cannot pull any strings on convincing citizens to vote their principal except through the snatch it, grab it and run away with it mantra.
But Nigerians are watching. Many, especially in the Northern regions, have vowed that should INEC manipulate the election again in favour of Tinubu, there would be anarchy in the land.
It is said that those whom the gods want to kill, they first make them mad. 2027 presidential election will not be manipulated by the INEC without dire consequences. Amupitan be warned. Nigerians will not accept to be fooled the second time.
