The Lagos Free Trade Zone Customs Command achieves a record-breaking revenue generation history since it was established, as the Command attains its highest monthly revenue collection in the month of June 2026 which amounts to 87.1 billion under the leadership of Comptroller Hauwa Abubakar

“It’s a man’s world”, is an argument that sounds trivial in the ears of a genius Customs Comptroller, Hauwa Abubakar. The sitting Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Lagos Free Trade Zone Area Command, is now found in the list of female heroes who have confirmed the age-long saying that “what a men can do, women can even do better” if given the opportunity. Thus, Comptroller Abubakar has equally proved that gender cannot be a barrier to quality leadership, as she has worked tirelessly to position the FTZ Customs Command among the highest revenue generating Commands of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The evidence to prove the foregoing emerged on June 30, 2026 when the FTZ Command under her watch generated a whopping N87.1 billion revenue for the month of June this year, a feat that has earned her respect within the NCS management.
The Command announced its record-breaking revenue performance for the first half of 2026 on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at a media briefing, underscoring its growing role in national economic development and trade facilitation agenda.
Speaking at the Half-Year Media Briefing, Comptroller Abubakar hinted that the Command achieved its highest monthly revenue generation since it was established, in the month of June 2026, collecting the ₦87.1 billion. The CAC also added that between January and June 2026, a total revenue of ₦408.8 billion, representing a 28.85 percent increase compared to the ₦317.3 billion generated during the same period in 2025, was collected.
Controller Abubakar attributed this unprecedented growth to deliberate strategies aimed at strengthening compliance, improving operational efficiency, and fostering stakeholder engagement. She emphasized that continuous dialogue with investors, licensed agents, importers, and exporters has built mutual trust and encouraged voluntary compliance with customs laws.
“This historic achievement demonstrates the Command’s growing capacity and the increasing confidence of investors and stakeholders operating within the Free Trade Zones and Lekki Deepsea Port,” she stated.
The Controller also praised the professionalism and integrity of officers and men of the Command, noting their diligence and discipline as key drivers of success. He expressed gratitude to Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his visionary leadership, as well as to sister security and regulatory agencies whose synergy has enhanced port security and legitimate trade.
Looking ahead, Comptroller Abubakar pledged to consolidate on the achievements in the second half of the year, improve service delivery, and surpass performance targets while maintaining transparency and professionalism. The Controller also thanked the media for their continued support in projecting the positive image of the Nigeria Customs Service.
