Former House of Representatives Member, Farouk Lawan, swaggers out of Kuje prison, Abuja with smiling face
Honourable Farouk Lawan, former member of the House of Representatives, has regained freedom after serving a jail term at the Kuje Custodial Centre, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Lawan completed the five-year jail term on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 and was released by the Nigeria Correctional Service’s (NCoS) authorities. He was spotted driving out of the prison premises by himself beaming with smiles and looking fresh.
Lawan’s completion of his jail term and consequent release from the prison yard of Kuje has since been confirmed by Adamu Duza, the FCT Command of the NCoS spokesman.
In a statement, Lawan said his release from prison has marked the beginning of another phase of his entire life, even as he thanked God for his release.
According to the statement, Lawan said; “I Thank Almighty Allah. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah.
“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life as I step out of Kuje Custodial Centre, with a heart full of gratitude to Allah SWT for seeing me through this trial.
“My gratitude is deep, I’m alive and in good health and high spirits to be with my family, friends and associates. I don’t take that for granted.
“I remain grateful and indebted to my family and friends who stood by me through this particularly trying phase of my life. May Allah bless you”.
Lawan was one of the most influential lawmakers at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, who literarily rose to become a notable kingmaker as he was practically involved in the emergence of all Speakers of the House before 2015.
The former Peoples Democratic Party PDP lawmaker who was chairman of the “Integrity Group” in the Green Chamber which masterminded the impeachment of the then Speaker, Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, was elected to the Lower Chambers four times in 1999, 2003, 2007 and again in 2011. He had become a thorn in the flesh of many who wanted to wield undue influence in the affairs of the House of Representatives before he was enmeshed in the bribery scandal for which he was found guilty and incarcerated.
