Viewed from all perspectives, the forthcoming general election will not be easy. It will not be easy for Nigerians wishing for a free, fair, credible and glitche-free poll.
There will be election apathy on the part of the populace, who had been severally disappointed over the outcomes of previous elections.
It will not be easy for opposition political parties, especially Atiku Abubakar’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Gregory Obi’s Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) who are fighting from the trenches and disadvantaged position, made worse by internal bickerings, and infiltration by the ruling party.
It won’t also be easy for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) banking on all manner of gimmicks and rigging. Reason is that there is so much angst in the land given the economic hardship and suffering brought upon the citizens by the unfriendly policies of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
Besides, the exercise may be marred by low voter turnout as many Nigerians now feel alienated just as had been witnessed in previous polls.
In spite of everything, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, had vowed to win the FCT and Rivers State. Banking on rigging he had declared that he would resign should he fail to secure both strongholds for the president.
Such audacity, in the estimation of many Nigerians, could only stem from a strong resolve to rig the election in Rivers, the FCT, and other states of the country in favour of the incumbent president.
But it won’t be easy at all as there will be several hurdles to cross before, during and after the elections.
As such, in our considered opinion, we capture the lead story titled: “2027 Presidency, is a Violent Election Rigger”, with a rider, “We Must Resist Him In 2027”. Judging from previous polls, especially in his home state, the FCT Minister, who displays a high level of rascality at any given opportunity, is expected to deploy all unconventional means, including violence, to achieve his goal.
Besides the 2027 election issue, we also beamed our searchlight on the “$7 billion Gateway Port, How Government Conspiracy Cripples Eastern Ports”, especially those in Calabar, Cross River State and Warri, Delta State and Onne in Rivers State.
The idea is to concentrate businesses on Lagos and Ogun, South West Nigeria, while ports in other parts of the country suffer.
The ongoing transition within the ranks of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) also caught our attention in what is titled: “New-Gen Revolution Hits Nigeria Customs…As Mistreated Officers Slam Management” .
In our usual down-to-earth manner, we equally serve you a melange of other compelling stories in the Business and Economy, Crime and Health sections.
